Hey! I'm Thijs, an eager to learn student with experience in team based or individual product design and development. As an Industrial Design Engineer, I seek to conceptualize and create sustainable, producable and viable products to improve the world. I have all the skills to work together with a team or individually and take an idea to a final product.
Personal
I was born on 1st of May 2002 in Assen. Of course, I really enjoy designing and creating. However, I have some other hobbies of my own. I play two instruments, bass guitar and piano. Furthermore, I enjoy cooking, making good coffee, analog photography and spending time with family and loved ones.

CAD2M 2023-2025I joined Cad2M to enforce their SolidWorks helpdesk, part time next to my masters. This offered me the opportunity to gain real life experience during my studies. Here I gained experience in customer support and further knowledge on SolidWorks, PDM and other PLM software. My time at CAD2M came to an end because of me moving and my commute getting too long because of this.

Technical Product Modelling
Bsc. Industrial Design Engineering Module 3,7 UTwenteHere you can see a CAD model of a playground modelled in SolidWorks. The dimensions of the playground can be modified to some extent. For instance, the distance between, height and area of the towers can be altered. The rest of the play elements connected to the towers will alter accordingly to fit the new dimensions. This was done as an assignment to get to know the functionalities of SolidWorks, such as equations, configurations and using proper design intent.

Bsc. Industrial Design Engineering Module 8 UTwenteThe goal of this project was to learn different skills that could be used for virtual product development. With a project team it was decided to design a modular play corner for various locations as a Product Service System. Some of the resulting elements of this toy corner can be seen here.

Minor BioRobotics Module 9 UTwenteThis parallel robot arm was designed and modelled for BioRobotics. This project implemented different aspects taught in the minor, such as: robot kinematics, biomedical signal analysis and control of robotic systems. These courses discussed material such as programming, tuning PID's and creating biomedical signal filters.

Bachelor Assignment
Bsc. Industrial Design Engineering Module 12 UTwenteFor my bachelor assignment I worked for and with Salland Storage to develop a box truck that would work with their StowBox. The StowBox is a movable storage solution that can be attached and detached from a trailer chassis. Here you can see some of the renders of the final design. In the top picture, you can see the StowBox on top of the subframe I designed to make the connection between the Chassis cabine and the StowBox. Below that, you can see foldable stairs that can be used to get into the StowBox while it is mounted on the subframe. The public summary of this thesis can be found here.

Design for Behaviour Change
Msc. Industrial Design Engineering year 1 Module 4 UTwenteDisclaimer: this assignment was not commissioned by Albert Heijn. The brand was used as a case study for this subject.
During this project a framework and concept was created for the Albert Heijn app. The goal was to increase awareness around microplastic consumption and change consumption behaviour on the long term.

Virtual Reality
Msc. Industrial Design Engineering year 1 Module 4 UTwenteFor this project, NS commitioned the assignment. The goal was to create a viable sollution around an existing problem the NS has, trough the lens of a VR sollution space. It was decided with the project team to focus on the problem of a shortage of training facilities such as the NS simulation center. This produced the concept of using unused train cockpits to run train driving simulations using Virtual/Augmented Reality, making use of already existing assets to solve an real problem.

MSc. Industrial Design Engineering year 2 Module 1 UTwenteBelow you can see a few renders. The purpose of these renders was to conceptualise a future scenario where water is heavily scarce and regulated. These renders were created using Blender.

Graphic Language of Producs
MSC. Industrial Design Engineering year 2 Module 2 UTwente This project had two parts. For one, an analysis was done on the existing graphic language of the car brand Mini. This graphic language was then translated to a whitelabel design for an electric car charger (provided by Koolen Industries).
For the second part of the project a new brand and graphic language were developed for We Drive Solar. This was done using techniques such as the brand translation prism and ideation using Gravity Sketch.

Produc Life Cycle Management
MSC. Industrial Design Engineering year 2 Module 3 UTwente
This project focussed on learning and implementing PLM practices using the 3DEXPERIANCE platform. The project used a case study of an imaginary company needing to improve and optimize a wind blade and YAW assembly of a wind trubine. Trough this case study the PLM change process and different apps on the 3DEXPERIANCE platform were explored.

The project of Advanced 3D Modelling focussed on exploring different functionalities within Advanced 3D modelling programs, in this case Siemens NX. For this specific project the focus was on the topology optimization of a guitar body.
